Tu Bi’Shvat: Growing Wonder Together

Tu Bi’Shvat, often called the Birthday of the Trees, is the perfect time to slow down and notice the beauty and wonder of the natural world. For babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, this holiday is less about facts and more about experiences — touching, tasting, listening, and exploring nature. These early moments help children begin to develop curiosity, gratitude, and a sense of responsibility for the world around them.

Simple Tu Bi’Shvat Activities

Plant and Water Together
Let your child help scoop soil, drop in seeds, or pour water into a pot or garden bed. Even very young children can participate by touching the dirt or watching the water soak in. Talk about how plants need care, patience, and love to grow — just like people.

Nature Walk & Wonder Time
Take a short walk and invite your child to notice what they see: tall trees, crunchy leaves, smooth rocks, or tiny bugs. Name colors, shapes, and textures, and follow your child’s lead as they point, touch, and explore. There’s no rush — the goal is simply to wonder together.

Taste the Fruits of the Earth
Share a Tu Bi’Shvat snack of fruits or nuts and encourage your child to use their senses. What does it smell like? Is it sweet or crunchy? This simple activity helps young children build appreciation for food and where it comes from.

Tu Bi’Shvat can remind us that caring for the earth starts early. When children experience nature, they begin to understand that the world is something precious — something we notice, protect, and love. These small moments of connection plant seeds that can grow for a lifetime.

As you celebrate Tu Bi’Shvat, we hope you’ll take time to pause, explore, and marvel alongside your child — nurturing both their sense of wonder and their growing connection to the world around them.
